Atlanta, GA – (July 22, 2019) The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) has announced  that the 4th Annual Bytes for Bites competition raised $44,288 and almost 3,000 pounds of food for the Georgia Food Bank Association. That equals 184,264 meals that Georgia’s food banks will be able to distribute to the families and children across the state who are struggling with hunger.

This year, more than two dozen technology companies and IT departments representing more than 2,000 members of the industry competed to see who could raise the most food and funds over two weeks. The Bytes for Bites competition was held June 10 – June 21. Every $1 raised earned each competitor 4 points and every 1 pound of food raised earned them 1 point.

There were two grand prize TAG Cup Winners this year: PrimeRevenue in Atlanta, who raised resources for Atlanta Community Food Bank and won with 42,160 points, the most points of any company across the state; and Athens Research and Technology, Inc. in Macon, who raised resources for Food Bank of Northeast Georgia with 687 points per employee, the most per employee of any company across the state. There were winners across five regions of the state, see a full list below.

“We cannot expect our children to learn and become our future innovators when they are worried about where their next meal is coming from. I am inspired by our technology community for coming together to do something about it. Congratulations to PrimeRevenue, Athens Research and Technology, and all of our winners. Bytes for Bites is a testament to the power of our industry as a collective, and I am proud to be a part of it,” Larry K. Williams, TAG President and CEO.

More than 1 in 5 children in Georgia are food insecure, meaning they may not know where their next meal is coming from, and more than 60% of Georgia’s kids rely on free and reduced meals at school. When these same children are home during the summer months without this resource, their families often struggle to put enough food on the table. Bytes for Bites is timed to help the Food Banks meet this increased demand for food assistance during the summer. Food and funds raised by each company stays local and benefits the regional Food Bank that serves their community.

“We are thrilled by the efforts of TAG and Georgia’s technology community to combat hunger across the entire state of Georgia. We saw leadership, passion, and energy in the entire state. Their commitment to our mission will truly have an impact on the families and children served by our food banks,” said Danah Craft, Executive Director, Georgia Food Bank Association.

ABOUT BYTES FOR BYTES

Bytes for Bites (B4B) is a Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) event in partnership with the Georgia Food Bank Association. The event enlists the aid of the technology industry in the fight against hunger during the summer months when demand for food assistance is at its highest. Over 60% of children in Georgia are eligible for free or reduced lunches during the school year, but less than 15% of them have access to these meals during the summer, making it difficult for families to put enough food on the table. Bytes for Bites is timed to meet this need.

About the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA)

The Georgia Food Bank Association food banks share food, resources and best practices to help close the meal gap and ensure a hunger-free Georgia. Working through nearly 2,400 partner agencies and pantries, they distribute more than 130 million pounds of food annually to 159 counties in Georgia. To support the food banks, GFBA develops statewide partnerships to raise food and funds, advances legislative priorities that impact the food banks, educates the public about the role of food banks, and raises awareness about hunger. http://georgiafoodbankassociation.org/
