By Larry K. Williams, president and CEO of TAG

The innovation economy doesn’t just happen. It’s created by extraordinary leaders and organizations, and this week TAG was honored to recognize a distinguished few of these winners at our 2nd annual Technology Awards.

Thanks to everyone who sponsored, judged and participated in this program on February 17. It was great to get together with our amazing tech community live and in person. Register now for our next big event at the Georgia Technology Summit April 26-27 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

In announcing the winners of 12 categories at the TAG Tech Awards, we heard some remarkable stories that offer powerful lessons for all of us who navigate a complex technology ecosystem. Below are three takeaways from the Technology Awards program:

  1. Great tech leadership involves building a successful culture that revolves around shared value, innovation and respect. That was the message from Bill VanCuren, TAG Chair and Senior Vice President & CIO, NCR Corporation. Building a winning tech culture takes particular dedication and focus in this age of supply chain shortages, digital disruption, constantly changing COVID rules and the shortage of tech talent needed to fuel innovation. Congratulations to the following individual TAG award winners:
    • Tech Leader of the Year (Public): Phil Ventimiglia, Georgia State University
    • Tech Leader of the Year (Private): Robin Gregg, RoadSync, and
    • Emerging Leader of the Year: Rachel Ozias, Comcast Business
  2. A tsunami of capital is reshaping the tech ecosystem. Venture Capital deal value hovered just above $40 billion between 2018 and 2020 and surpassed $80 billion for the first time ever in 2021, according to the PitchBook-NVCA Q4 2021 Venture Monitor. Companies are rushing to invest in the transformative power of digital technologies. Award winners like NCR, RoadSync, Manheim are developing new ways to use technology to deliver work more efficiently and effectively. TAG is proud to recognize the following organizations for successfully navigating this exciting time of digital change and disruption.
    • Innovation Driven Company (Startup): MapHabit, Inc.
    • Innovation Driven Company (Small): RoadSync
    • Innovation Driven Company (Midmarket): GoFan
    • Innovation Driven Company (Enterprise – Private): NCR Corporation
    • Innovation Driven Company (Enterprise – Public): Manheim
    • Digital Transformation of the Year (Nonprofit/Government/Education): Kennesaw State University
    • Digital Transformation of the Year (Private): Wrench Group
    • Tech Evolution: Honeywell Connected Enterprise
  3. Technology is being used in new and creative ways to solve societal problems. Today’s innovators are unleashing technology to connect the disconnected, improve access to healthcare and make the world a better place. Comcast Business, winner of TAG’s Technology for Good award, is a case in point. Comcast Business works tirelessly to bridge the digital divide and connect disadvantaged communities. The company also goes above and beyond to drive inclusion within its organization and throughout the technology ecosystem. TAG is actively engaged in advancing these efforts and is honored to recognize Comcast Business as winner of our 2022 Tech for Good Award.
