HB 199 - Video Game & Postproduction Income Tax Credit

 

Today House Bill 199 Senate substitute sponsored by Representative Trey Rhodes (R - Greensboro) was passed by the Georgia House of Representatives 159-4 and heads to the Governor's desk. This bill change certain provisions regarding the income tax credit for interactive entertainment companies and postproduction company expenditures while removing the sunset on such exemptions. The bill adds an exemption for certain pre-released products, and provides for a new state income tax credit for qualified postproduction expenditures of postproduction companies. SB 117 - Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) Agency Policy Changes

 

SB 117 sponsored by Senator P. K. Martin was passed by the House of Representatives 164-0 and is on its way to the Governor's office. This bill establishes policies and standards for government agencies to submit information technology plans to the authority. These technology policies and standards are for all agencies, including, but not limited to, the role and responsibilities of chief information officers and chief information security officers within such agencies. SB 186 - HOPE Grant Dual Coursework are Eligible

 

SB 186 sponsored by sponsored by Senator Lindsey Tippins passed by the House of Representatives 155-0 and is on its way to the Governor's office. This bill aims to clarify language relating to the effect of dual credit courses on HOPE scholarship and grant applicability. So that students who earned a high school diploma through certain dual credit coursework are eligible for a HOPE grant toward an associate degree. Click the link below to view the bill.

SB 219 - Autonomous Vehicle Operations

 

SB 219 sponsored by Senator Steve Gooch (R-51) passed by the House of Representatives today 151-17 and awaits Governor Deals signature to become law. This bill allows the operation of motor vehicles with automated driving systems on certain public roads and a clear liability framework relating to autonomous vehicle accidents and other instances. FTC, NHTSA to Conduct Workshop on June 28 on Privacy, Security Issues Related to Connected, Automated Vehicles

 

The Federal Trade Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will hold a workshop on June 28, 2017 in Washington, D.C., to examine the consumer privacy and security issues posed by automated and connected motor vehicles.

CompTIA Supports Smart Cities and Communities

 

On March 16, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection held the first ever hearing on smart cities and communities. Witnesses included representatives from the cities of Pittsburgh, Columbus, Portland, Oregon and Chicago, as well as a professor from Georgia Tech. CompTIA and the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA) sent the subcommittee a letter for the record supporting the draft Smart Cities and Communities Act.
