Thursday, March 30th was the last legislative day of the 2017 40-day session of the Georgia General Assembly. Governor Deal had until May 9th to sign or veto any remaining measures. Governor Deal Recognizes STEM Day & Cybersecurity Day


Governor Deal recognized May 5, 2017 as Georgia STEM Day and encouraged our citizens to celebrate STEM education in order to engage our youth and sustain our position as a leader in technology. On May 17, 2017 Governor Deal recognized Business Cybersecurity Day to enhance public-private partnerships and better prepare Georgia's businesses for the technological challenges of the future.

Georgia Supreme Court upholds ride-sharing law


The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the 2015 state law authorizing and regulating app-based ride-sharing services in Georgia. The justices sided with a lower-court decision in a lawsuit filed in July 2015 by several Atlanta taxicab drivers.

Kay Kirkpatrick wins Georgia state Senate runoff


Republican Kay Kirkpatrick won against Democrat Christine Triebsch, according to unofficial results in a runoff to represent parts of Cobb and Fulton counties in the state Senate. Kirkpatrick garnered about 57 percent of the vote, according to unofficial returns. Triebsch took about 43 percent.

AT&T Awarded $119M, 5-year Contract to Support Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 


The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded AT&T a task order valued up to $119 million to support the CDC. AT&T has plans to improve the CDC’s local area network, in-building cellular coverage and Wi-Fi with a single, fully managed telecommunications solution.

Georgia 6th District Debate: What time, what channel, livestream


Georgia’s 6th District congressional candidates Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff will meet in a live primetime debate at 8 p.m. Tuesday June 6 on WSB-TV. This debate happens as Georgians already are casting early ballots in the June 20 runoff, a closely watched race to replace Republican Tom Price.

CISOs “Fly In” for NTSC’s Inaugural Capitol Hill Event


On May 24th over 20 chief information security officers (CISOs) and senior technology executives from across the nation attended the National Technology Security Coalition’s (NTSC) inaugural DC Fly-In to advocate for cybersecurity priorities on Capitol Hill. Across three days, attendees met with elected officials, government agency executive leaders, and cybersecurity policy experts about policy agendas for 2017.

Federal courts shoot down drone registration for hobbyists


A federal court has struck down the requirement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for drone registration by hobbyists who operate their drone purely for recreation.

President Trump signs executive order to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities


It is now the policy of the United States to manage cybersecurity risk as a Federal enterprise. The President has mandated the use of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework across government, ensuring the same high standards recommended for private industry are applied everywhere.
