Carcoustics to Create 200 Jobs in Gwinnett County

 

Gov. Nathan Deal has announced that Carcoustics, a supplier to the automotive industry, will create 200 jobs and invest $6 million in a new Buford facility over the next five years. The newly created jobs will include positions in manufacturing.

Lt. Governor Cagle Announces 2017 Senate Study Committee Appointments  


Lt. Governor Casey Cagle has announced appointments to the Special Tax Exemption Study Committee and the Rural Georgia Study Committee. These senate study committees, created with the passage of Senate Resolutions 222 and 392, will evaluate potential legislative reforms to address the challenges facing Georgia’s families, businesses and communities.

Deal Announces Creation of Local Government 9-1-1 Authority 

 

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced creation of the Local Government 9-1-1 Authority, which will be housed under the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), on July 1. Deal will introduce legislation codifying the Authority during the 2018 legislative session.

Karen Handel Sworn in as Georgia’s First GOP Congresswoman 

 

Karen Handel made Georgia history Monday evening, becoming the state’s first Republican congresswoman when she was sworn in by House Speaker Paul Ryan to represent Georgia’s 6th District. The occasion came six days after she defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in a closely-watched special election that saw record levels of outside spending.

CBO Greenlights Telehealth Provisions in Senate’s CHRONIC Care Act  


A few weeks ago, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) concluded that a key piece of telehealth legislation, the CHRONIC Care Act of 2017, would not, overall, increase or decrease Medicare spending. This score is significant as it marks the first time that CBO has concluded that providing enhanced Medicare coverage for telehealth services would be budget neutral and clears the path for Congress to pass the legislation in a tough political climate.

Proposed Law Would Let Local Governments Legislate Drones 

 

Congressman Jason Lewis (R-MN) recently introduced the Drone Innovation Act into Congress that would direct the U.S. Department of Transportation to work with state and local governments to regulate drones. According to Government Technology, which spoke with Lewis, the bill has bipartisan support and would give state and local governments the ability to decide for themselves regulations for drones flying 200 feet or under over their municipalities.
