State of the FinTech Market - 9:15 am

The financial technology market is characterized by a rapid emergence of disruptive technologies and new business models across the payments value chain. This panel will elaborate on the state of this ever-changing technology landscape and discuss key trends and impacts on industry. It will dive further into the innovations and trends specifically in the Georgia FinTech market while leveraging the FinTech Ecosystem white paper developed collaboratively by TAG FinTech and Georgia Tech’s Scheller School of Business.

Evolution of Acquiring - 10:00 am

Multiple drivers are forcing acquirers to change their business models. One of the major trends is the evolution to SaaS models in response to competitive threats like Square, Stripe and Braintree. This panel will include a diverse panel of FinTech companies to discuss the extent and implications of this evolution and the underlying challenges.

FinTech Innovation Award - 11:00 am (Finalist Pitch Sessions; 4:55 pm (Award Winner Presentation)

The $50,000 grant, targeting startup businesses, is focused on businesses delivering innovative technology solutions to the Georgia FinTech market. The start-up judged to have the most innovative technology-based solution that can have a positive impact on the FinTech market will receive the grant. Finalists for the grant will present at the Symposium.

FinTech Lifetime Achievement Award - 11:55 am

The annual award recognizes a remarkable industry leader whose contributions to Georgia's FinTech landscape have made a memorable impactful and helped this sector to flourish. TAG FinTech is pleased to present this year's Lifetime Achievement Award to the 2016 recipient Brooks Smith, Founder & CEO of InComm. Past recipients of the award include esteemed Georgia FinTech leaders such as Jimmy Blanchard, Synovus, Pete Kight, CheckFree, Paul Garcia, Global Payments, Pamela Joseph, US Bancorp, and Phil Tomlinson, TSYS.

Commercial Payments - 1:30 pm

Often overlooked due to the amount of attention given to retail payments, commercial payments is also ripe for disruption. We are observing innovators attempting to address current friction in the commercial payments and shifting expectations amongst stakeholders - not to mention the looming question of blockchain and how it might impact commercial payments. This panel will discuss the current challenges within commercial payments and where it believes disruptive forces have greater probabilities for success.

Security Trends, Mandatory Technologies, and Government Enforcers - 2:30 pm

This panel will explore the successes, failures, and unpredicted outcomes of the EMV liability shift as well as discussing the latest data security technologies. The panel will evaluate network mandates designed to incent merchants to adopt EMV and P2PE and their implications on the merchant base.  We will also debate the evolving role of government in setting and enforcing data security standards and the potential consequences that may result.

Mobile Payments - 3:55 pm

Significant strides have been made within the mobile payments space with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, bank payment wallets, etc. all entering and competing to gain an edge in this market. There are no clear winners yet and 3 - 5 year forecasts of the market vary substantially across the different market players. This panel will endeavor to discuss the actual level of acceptance and adoption, key threats and challenges and discuss whether there is a clear business case for mobile payments.
