Innovation is alive and the technology ecosystem in Georgia coming alive! From corporate innovation and R&D activity to accelerator programs and top-tier research universities, Georgia continues to attract high-tech talent and corporate powerhouses. This activity further draws upon the entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit solidifying the state as a digital leader.
Just this week TAG member, Deluxe, announced it is opening its new fintech and customer innovation campus in Atlanta. This move will bring more than 700 jobs and an investment of $10 million to the region. Barry McCarthy, President and CEO of Deluxe, touted Atlanta as having a “deep FinTech talent pool, industry coalitions, business-friendly environment, and supportive university system.” This addition to the area further solidifies Atlanta as a financial technology hub.
The talent pool continues to be an important part of the technology ecosystem and some of the top-quality technology leaders were recently recognized as finalists for the Georgia CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards. This is the premier technology executive recognition program in Georgia, and I’m proud to say five TAG Board members were selected as finalists. Congratulations to the following leaders who have demonstrated leadership, innovation and excellence in technology leadership.
Zack Bishop, EVP – Technology, Operations, Security, Synovus
Brian Benn, Chief Information Officer, Atlanta Housing Authority
Gary Brantley, Commissioner and CIO, City of Atlanta
Kim Trevisan, Chief Information Officer, Oldcastle APG
Michael Sullivan, VP and CIO, Southern Company Gas
At TAG we encourage members and non-members to be actively involved in the technology community by creating opportunities to engage. I am pleased to say that TAGit, TAG’s annual golf tournament supporting TAG-Ed has sold out. I’d like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers and participants for making this year’s event a success. I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
And FinTech South is just around the corner, taking place October 5-9. It is ramping up to be an incredible program that is sure to be one of the premier virtual events of 2020. We just announced the addition of more than 100 speakers to the lineup of founders, CEOs and senior leaders. I encourage you to join us along with more than 2,500 fintech leaders from Atlanta and everywhere! To learn more about the event and register, click here.
What a busy week it’s been for the technology community! I hope everyone takes some time to enjoy your weekend.
