ATLANTA — The Atlanta AI and Robotics Initiative is highlighting the workforce needed to build, deploy and maintain physical artificial intelligence systems following founder and Executive Director Nolan Code’s recent presentation at a physical AI summit at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Code’s presentation connected advances in AI with the practical skills needed to operate technology beyond the lab. For AARI, that means preparing students to work across hardware, software, networking and infrastructure through hands-on engineering.
The Atlanta-based initiative describes this approach as developing systems builders: people who understand how individual components work together and can troubleshoot problems across an entire system. Robotics and data center infrastructure provide complementary settings for that work.
AARI’s educational focus includes robotics, autonomous navigation and the computing systems that support them. Students encounter the connections between code, sensors, computing hardware and the physical environments in which those systems operate. The approach emphasizes building and operating technology as a way to develop technical judgment.
Through its Own the Stack philosophy, AARI connects technical learning with responsibility for the underlying systems. Deploying a workload creates opportunities to learn Linux, networking, security and resource management alongside AI. Working with physical equipment also brings power, cooling and maintenance into the learning process.
AARI is seeking conversations with Georgia employers, educators and technology organizations interested in supporting this workforce pipeline. Opportunities for collaboration include engineering mentorship, access to equipment and facilities, and employer-supported internships.
