New system recommended to replace Georgia voting machines

The Georgia General Assembly is considering replacing Georgia's current touch-screen voting machines with new ones for the 2020 election. Following the controversy of the past election, a special state commission recommended that Georgia invest in new touch-screen machines that will also print a paper ballot that voters can check and then run through optical scanners which would cast their votes.

Speaker Ralston Announces Members of the House Working Group on Creative Arts & Entertainment

The House Working Group on Creative Arts & Entertainment will work throughout the 2019-2020 legislative session to increase investment and job creation in Georgia through the film, television, music and video game production industries, among others. These industries employ 200,000 Georgians and generate more than $60 billion of economic activity in the state each year.

Georgians First Commission

One of the first executive orders passed by Governor Kemp on his first day of office was “Establishing the Georgians First Commission.” Governor Kemp created this commission to see what state regulations, policies, or procedures could impede and have impeded small business growth. This is an important change since Georgia, for six years in a row, has been the top state for business in the United States and 99.6% of Georgia businesses employ under 500 employees.

US legislators introduce bills targeting Chinese tech companies

A recent article by the Wall Street Journal indicated that the United States is wrapping up a criminal probe that could result in Chinese technology giant, Huawei's, indictment. Bills have been introduced by a bipartisan group of legislators in the US Congress that would deny the sale of US components to Chinese telecommunications companies that violate federal sanctions or export laws.

National Protection of Consumer Information

US House Bill 331 was proposed by Representative Lieu (D) of California. The bill aims to make the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) review and revise its regulations and standards for protecting customer information. The bill requires that certain agencies and service providers have significant safeguards against cyber attacks and other related threats.

I-Corps and Innovative Companies

US House Bill 539 was proposed by Representative Lipinski (D) of Illinois. The purpose of the bill is to require the Director of the National Science Foundation to develop an I-Corps course to support commercialization-ready innovation companies.
