Ricky Steele Earns the Technology Tweet Tournament Championship Title
16 Competitors Drive More than 3,000 Tweets Promoting Georgia’s Technology Industry in Just Two Weeks
ATLANTA –April 10, 2013 –The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) in partnership with Arketi Group crowned Ricky Steele (@rickysteele), chief development officer for Hunter Technical Resources and host of Booth 61 with Ricky Steele, the 2013 Technology Tweet Tournament Champion.
Steele beat Mercer University (@MercerYou) in the final round of the Technology Tweet Tournament 200 to 181 retweets.
An executive with Hunter Technical Resources, one of Atlanta’s premier IT Staffing firms, Steele is also the host of Booth 61 with Ricky Steele, a weekly Internet radio show on Georgia’s technology landscape. For more than 30 years, Steele has been active in the Atlanta technology community – known as a fearless network builder and technology business catalyst. This made him a formidable competitor.
Sixteen of Georgia’s top technology tweeters squared off in head-to-head matches where each player had only one tweet per round. That tweet had to include #WhereGALeads and a link to the 2013 State of the Industry Report. Once the player tweeted, it was up to followers to re-tweet the original post. The player with the most re-tweets over the next 24 hours advanced to the next round in the Tournament.
The two week Tournament drove more than 3,000 tweets and re-tweets, directed more than 2,000 visitors to the 2013 State of the Industry Report website, and earned two of the top 20 trending Twitter topics for Atlanta on March 20.
“Through my participation in the Technology Tweet Tournament, I wanted to share all the great things happening in Georgia’s technology community,” said Steele. “A lot of time, energy, and funding were involved in creating the 2013 State of Georgia Technology Report, and it should be read by everyone interested in Georgia’s technology community. I want to thank TAG and my friends at Arketi for including me in the competition as well as those who supported me all the way to the final round.”
TAG and Arketi, a high-tech business-to-business public relations and digital marketing firm, launched the Technology Tweet Tournament on March 20 to find the state’s top technology tweeter and spread the word about Georgia’s growing technology industry.
“We were thrilled with the enthusiasm showed in supporting the Tournament and the attention it brought to the 2013 State of the Industry Report” said Tino Mantella, president and CEO of TAG. “TAG’s goal is to help Georgia get recognized as one of the top five states for technology by 2015, and we believe that efforts such as this will help turn heads and get people across the globe interested in what is happening here in technology.”
“This year’s Tournament competitors represent the top technology companies and individuals in Georgia, and provided for some exciting games posting impressive number and down to the buzzer scoring,” said Mike Neumeier, APR, principal at Arketi. “Much like the 2013 NCAA championship game held here in Atlanta, our final was action packed and proved that master networker and Georgia technology executive Ricky Steele had what it took to earn the 2013 title. There is no doubt that @rickysteele deserves to be recognized as the state’s top technology tweeter”
