Lt. Gov. Cagle Announces Study Committee Appointments

 

Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle announced the Senate and Joint Study Committee appointments in late June. The creation of these study committees aim to analysis and examine a specific topic or issue affecting Georgia citizens. Study Committees are responsible to put a report together display the findings and suggest recommendations of action. Atlanta Workforce Development Agency Receives $4 Million TechHire Grant

 

The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA) announced last week that it has been awarded a $4 million TechHire grant by the U.S. Department of Labor. The grant will support the ATL TechHire initiative, a program led by the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, in partnership with The Iron Yard and TechSquare Labs. The U.S. Department of Labor also awarded a $3.6 million grant to the Atlanta Technical College. Overall, Atlanta-based organizations received $7.6 million in total grant awards.

Amazon Announces Plans for 500 Job Expansion in Georgia  

 

On June 22 Amazon announced plans for a new fulfillment center in Braselton, Georgia. When the facility is operational, Amazon will create more than 500 new full-time jobs. In Georgia, amazon currently has more than 1,500 full-time employees.

Qualified Investor Tax Credit

 

The Georgia Department of Revenue updates Rule 560-7-8-.52 to be in conformity with House Bill 237. Specifically, to update the rule for the extension of the angel investment tax credit through 2018 and to express the maximum tax credit of $5 million. The Notice requires that the Form IT-QBR, the form that registers the business as a qualified business with the Department of Revenue, must be electronically submitted to the Department of Revenue through the Georgia Tax Center website. The Notice also requires that the Form IT-QI-AP, the form for qualified investors to get preapproved from the Department of Revenue for the Angel Investment Tax Credit.

FAA Finalize Rules for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems

 

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has finalized the first operational rules for routine commercial use of small unmanned aircraft systems, opening pathways towards fully integrating UAS into the nation’s airspace. The new rule, which takes effect in late August, offers safety regulations for unmanned aircraft drones weighing less than 55 pounds that are conducting non-hobbyist operations.

U.S. Sens. Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Mark R. Warner (D-VA) announced the creation of the Senate Cybersecurity Caucus to provide a platform for Senators and their staffs to stay informed on major policy issues and developments in cybersecurity.
