Georgia Statewide Technology Town Hall Meetings

 

The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the state’s leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia’s technology industry is hosting a Technology Town Hall throughout of statewide Chapters. The Technology Town Hall serves as an informational forum about the critical issues and policies that are important to the emerging technology communities in Georgia. Attendees will be able to learn about legislative activities from the 2016 session, as well as preview initiatives for the upcoming 2017 Georgia General Assembly.

GTA’s Web Accessibility Initiative Receives National IT Award

 

A GTA-led initiative to ensure the accessibility of state websites to people with a range of disabilities has been honored with a first place award from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO). The award was presented September 19 at NASCIO’s national conference to Nikhil Deshpande, director of GTA’s GeorgiaGov Interactive team, which manages the state’s web portal, www.georgia.gov, and enterprise web platform. The platform currently supports 78 state websites.

Georgia Named Top State for Business for 3rd Year in a Row

 

Georgia has been named the No. 1 state in the nation in which to do business for the third consecutive year by Area Development, a leading corporate site selection and relocation magazine. In addition to being named the top state for business, Georgia is ranked No. 1 for cooperative and responsive state government as well as workforce development programs. Georgia ranks second for its competitive labor environment, regulatory environment and speed of permitting.

Global Commerce Generates $4.4B in Investments 

 

Gov. Nathan Deal announced that the Global Commerce Division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) helped create a total of 25,341 new jobs and generate $4.4 billion in investment during FY 16. This growth is a result of the expansion or relocation by 365 companies spanning every region of the state.

U.S. Department of Transportation Issues Federal Policy for Safe Testing and Deployment of Automated Vehicles

 

The U.S. Department of Transportation is issuing Federal policy for automated vehicles, laying a path for the safe testing and deployment of new auto technologies that have enormous potential for improving safety and mobility for Americans on the road. The policy sets a proactive approach to providing safety assurance and facilitating innovation through four key parts. Vehicle performance guidance uses a 15-point Safety Assessment to set clear expectations for manufacturers developing and deploying automated vehicle technologies.
