 TAG CAPITOL UPDATE          Technology: Where Georgia Leads


Augusta Cyber Security Study Committee Wednesday October 7th 

 

TAG is working with State Senators/Representatives Science & Technology Committees to have 2 Study Committee meetings in Georgia to educate and determine how Georgia can best position itself to help foster the Cyber Industry. The first committee meeting will be hosted by Fort Gordon October 7th 10am-2pm focusing on Federal and State Government cyber security practices/technologies. The second committee meeting will be part of TAG's 2015 Legislative Roundtable and is oriented around what is going on in the industry and opportunities to build the cyber security industry in Georgia. TAG 2015 Legislative Roundtable Examines Disruptive Technologies, Aerospace and Workforce Development

 

TAG Legislative Round-table is an annual event focused on bringing legislators, researchers, and industry representatives together to discuss emerging science and technology policy issues in Georgia. The event is hosted by TAG and aims to match political, academic, and industry expertise in a venue that fosters development of relationships and understanding of Georgia's policies surrounding science and technology. Georgia Once Again Leads The 2015 Top States for Doing Business

 

For the second year in a row and the fourth time overall, Area Development Magazine named Georgia the top state for doing business. Other states in the top ten include Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Louisiana, Ohio and Kentucky. The Peach State was number one for labor climate, and second for overall infrastructure and global access, behind Tennessee. Georgia was number three for business climate, behind Texas and South Carolina.

Georgia Regents University renamed as Augusta University

 

On September 15, 2015 the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia renamed Georgia Regents University as Augusta University. The board reviewed strategic momentum and voted unanimously to change the name to Augusta University because it supports the strategic plan and partnership with the community. Click read more to view a message from Augusta University President.

Internet Tax Freedom Act Expired October 1st


With no congressional action, the Internet Tax Freedom Act (ITFA) expired last week (October 1, 2015). Since its initial enactment in 1998, the ITFA has banned federal, state and local governments from taxing Internet access charges, as well as from assessing multiple taxes on electronic commerce. Georgia Representative Tom Price is Running for House Majority Leader


House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (GA-6) is in the race to become the next House Majority Leader.  Texas GOP Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) will not run for any leadership position but will instead back Rep. Tom Price bid for majority leader, a Hensarling aide said on Monday. House Ways and Means Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) is throwing his weight behind Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) for majority leader, a significant boost for the Georgia Republican.
