Georgia ranked No. 1 state for business for fourth consecutive year

 

Gov. Nathan Deal announced that Georgia has been named the No. 1 state in the nation in which to do business for the fourth consecutive year by Site Selection magazine, a leading economic development trade publication. “For a remarkable fourth time in a row, Georgia has once again been named the top state in nation in which to do business, highlighting the vitality of our state economy and the business-friendly environment that continues to help companies grow,” said Deal.

Anthem Establishes Information Technology Hub in Atlanta Bringing More Than 1,800 Jobs to Georgia

 

Anthem, Inc., one of the nation’s largest health benefits companies, announced it will establish an Information Technology hub in Atlanta – bringing more than 1,800 IT-related jobs over the next six years to a state where Anthem companies have a long history and workforce commitment. This new commitment includes an investment in real estate at Bank of America Plaza in midtown Atlanta that will allow for closer collaboration with the Anthem Innovation Studio recently opened in Atlanta’s Tech Square. Anthem’s establishment of the Atlanta IT hub includes an initial investment of $20 million that will grow over the next few years.

YANMAR America Corporation Will Create 25 New Jobs in Cherokee County, Invest $20M

 

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced that YANMAR America Corporation, a manufacturer of advanced performance diesel engines, equipment and gas engine based energy systems, will open a new training and customer experience facility in Cherokee County, creating 25 jobs and investing $20 million into the local community. The new facility will generate employment opportunities related to administration, marketing, service, training and management.

Georgia Lottery Raises Record First Quarter Dollars for HOPE Scholarship, Pre-K Programs

 

The Georgia Lottery Corp. announced record profits for education for the first quarter of fiscal year 2017. Profits transferred to the State Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account will amount to $273.6 million, surpassing last year’s record first quarter transfer by $19.7 million. The Georgia Lottery’s first quarter profits bring the total raised for educational programs in the state of Georgia to more than $17.8 billion since the lottery’s inception in 1993.

Governor Announces Innovation Fund Grant Award Winners 

 

Gov. Nathan Deal announced 18 grant award winners for the Innovation Fund, a competitive grant program that provides funding to local education authorities and schools to further advance student achievement in Georgia. "The Innovation Fund Grant is an opportunity to fuel the innovative ideas of Georgia’s education leaders and students throughout the state,” said Deal. “I am confident this funding will give schools and education groups a greater opportunity to develop methods to ensure that every Georgia student is given the tools necessary for academic achievement."

U.S. Chief Information Officer Releases a Proposed Guidance to Modernize Federal IT 

 

Building on efforts to boost Federal cybersecurity and as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Tony Scott, U.S. Chief Information Officer, released a set of proposed guidelines for modernizing federal information technology. “Moving the Federal Government to modern infrastructure, such as cloud-based solutions, is a fundamental necessity to building a digital government that is responsive to citizen needs and secure by design,” said Scott.  “Doing so will enhance agencies’ ability to protect sensitive data, reduce costs, and deliver world-class services to the public.”

U.S. Department of Transportation Announces New Advisory Committee on Automation in Transportation

 

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced today that he will establish an Advisory Committee on Automation in Transportation (ACAT), which will serve as a critical resource for the Department in framing federal policy for the continued development and deployment of automated transportation. “This committee will help determine how, when, and where automated technology will transform the way we move,” said Foxx. “The Department has advanced some of the life-saving benefits of automated technologies, including automated vehicle policy, but we are looking outside the government for innovative and thoughtful leaders to uncover its full potential across all modes.”
