2016 Georgia Primary Results

 

On May 24 Georgia voters casted their vote in Georgia’s primary election. In addition to voting on nominees for federal, state, and local public offices, Georgians voted to elect judges from local courts to Georgia’s highest court. The link below displays the 2016 Georgia Primary Election results. The Democratic or the Republican primary run-off election will be held on July 26.

Deal Announces Professional Learning Grants

 

On May 16 Gov. Nathan Deal announced seven winners of the Innovation in K-8 Mathematics and/or K-12 Computer Science/Coding Professional Learning Grants. This is the second round of the competitive grant program that supports Local Education Agencies (LEAs), Regional Educational Service Agencies (RESAs) and individual schools in improving instruction in the areas of mathematics and computer science through the implementation of innovative professional learning models.

Lt. Gov. Cagle Launches Georgia Consortium for Advanced Technical Training Program

 

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle launched the Georgia Consortium of Advanced Technical Training (GA CATT) Program, the first of its kind in the United States with the Central Educational Center, Coweta County’s College and Career Academy. The program unites the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S., Inc. with the Technical College System of Georgia and eight Coweta County manufacturing companies.

Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 Open for Public Comment

 

Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) repeals the Medicare sustainable growth rate (SGR) methodology for updates to the physician fee schedule (PFS) and replaces it with a new Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for MIPS eligible clinicians or groups under the PFS. To view the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) summary click here. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) writes the rules for global trade rules that will help increase Made-in-America exports, grow the American economy, support well-paying American jobs, and strengthen the American middle class. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement will make it easier for entrepreneurs, farmers, and small business owners to sell Made-In-Georgia products abroad by eliminating more than 18,000 taxes and other trade barriers on American products.

U.S. House Of Representatives Approve Fort Gordon Construction Projects

 

The House passed a defense authorization bill 5/17/16 that includes nearly $155 million for four projects at Fort Gordon. Three of the projects are related to the Army’s center of cybersecurity and the fourth is for a medical clinic to serve the additional personnel.

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Approves Natural Gas Project in Savannah

 

On Friday June 3 Energy giant Kinder Morgan moved one step closer to a large-scale export of natural gas through a Savannah terminal. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the $2 billion project to build 10 gas liquefaction units to ready gas flowing down the main East Coast trunk pipeline near Atlanta to the Elba Island terminal for export. The construction project is scheduled for completion in 2018.
