Deal Signs Amended FY 2017 Budget 

 

Gov. Nathan Deal signed the Amended FY 2017 budget at a signing ceremony in Augusta, authorizing $24.3 billion in spending for the current fiscal year. The state appropriations within HB 43 are based on a 3 percent growth in revenues over FY 2016 collections.

Space Flight Passed by House

 

State Rep. Jason Spencer’s HB 1, which would “provide for the facilitation of space flight activities in this state,” easily passed the House late last week by a margin of 162-5. The bill looks to be the key piece of legislation to bring commercial space flight to the state as it would clarify the laws related to the industry.

Pratt & Whitney Expanding Business in Columbus, Georgia

 

Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp., announced that it will invest approximately $386 million in its Columbus, Georgia, facility to increase the production of parts and maintenance services and to reduce costs for new and existing engine programs.

Rep. Johnson hosting 2nd Annual Career & Community Resources Fair

 

March 3rd from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Rep Hank Johnson (GA-04), will be hosting his 2nd Annual Career and Community Resources Fair at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Congressman Johnson is excited about the idea of showcasing great organizations that are sincerely focused wellbeing of their employees. The break-out sessions will provide all that participate the resources and foundation on which they can build a bright future upon.

2017 CompTIA DC Fly-In: Championing Apprenticeships for New Careers and Employees in Technology Act (CHANCE) in TECH Act

 

The information technology industry relies on an innovative and evolving workforce with specific skills, education and training requirements. These skills aren’t necessarily acquired through a traditional four-year college track, but rather can start in K-12 education, continue into higher education, and include industry recognized certifications. Increasingly, work-based learning activities such as apprenticeships are being included in education and training programs of study for IT. CompTIA joined the United States Information Technology Office (USITO) community as a parent associations. CompTIA will serve on the Executive Committee of USITO, which sets strategy and guides all aspects of USITO’s ongoing efforts to understand and improve the policy environment for technology industry growth and innovation in China.

DHS 2017 GPS Equipment Testing for Critical Infrastructure

 

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is hosting the 2017 GPS Equipment Testing for Critical Infrastructure (GET-CI) event. This event will take place from April 17-21, 2017, at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC) in Butlerville, Indiana. S&T's GPS Equipment Testing for Critical Infrastructure events are intended to be executed as a series of test opportunities over the next year or two. The April 2017 event is intended for manufacturers of commercial GPS receivers or equipment used in critical infrastructure.
