Unmanned Aircraft Systems HB 779 Substitute

Yesterday February 16th, the House Judiciary Non-Civil Subcommittee met to discuss changes to HB 779, sponsored by Representative Kevin Tanner (R - Dawsonville), and take testimony. A majority of the concerns dealt with the definition of "Private Place", stating the definition is vague and has zero expectations of privacy. The other concern was aimed at the April 1, 2016 deadline to receive a Section 333 Exemption necessary to lawfully capture an image using an unmanned aircraft system in the State of Georgia. The industry voiced this was not sufficient timeframe in order to receive the exemption. A few other speakers voiced minor tweaks to the bill to include certain exemptions for law enforcement, flying over or near railroads, and specific conditions for flying over roads or highways. Representative Tanner has committed to continue working with industry and others to create a bill all parties can support. Click the link below to review the updated HB 779 in more detail.
