2017 TAG Legislative Roundtable

TAG Legislative Round-table is an annual event focused on bringing legislators, researchers, and industry representatives together to discuss emerging science and technology policy issues in Georgia. The event is hosted by TAG and aims to match political, academic, and industry expertise in a venue that fosters development of relationships and understanding of Georgia's policies surrounding science and technology. This year's theme is Connecting Georgia with speakers on smart cities, broadband and agriculture technology.

The Georgia General Run-Off Election was held yesterday December 5, 2017, for all races in the November 6, 2017 General Election that resulted in no single candidate receiving at least 50% plus one (1) vote. View the link below for the election results.

Deal Announces Administration Changes 

Gov. Nathan Deal nominated Gretchen Corbin to serve as President and CEO of the Georgia Lottery Corp. following the announcement of current President and CEO Debbie D. Alford’s departure. Deal also nominated Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Deputy Commissioner Matt Arthur to fill the position of TCSG commissioner.

Deal Announces $35 million for Cybersecurity Center Expansion  

Gov. Nathan Deal announced $35 million in funding for an expansion of the Hull McKnight Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center in Augusta. The second facility will serve as an incubator hub for technology startups as well as a training space for the state’s cybersecurity initiatives and workforce development programs.

The Department of Defense spent $7.4 billion in fiscal year 2017 on cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence technologies, according to a recent report by public-sector contracting analytics firm Govini.
