Join TAG on December 14th for its annual Legislative Roundtable featuring panels on Cyber Security, Smart City IoT, Health IT, and UAS/Drones. The Legislative Roundtable is focused on bringing legislators, researchers, and industry representatives together to discuss emerging science and technology policy issues in Georgia. The event is hosted by TAG and aims to match political, academic, and industry expertise in a venue that fosters development of relationships and understanding of Georgia's policies surrounding science and technology.

Georgia Day of Code December 9th

 

The Technology Association of Georgia and TAG Education Collaborative, in partnership with Code.org, developed Georgia Day of Code to increase the number of Georgia students, educators, and workers who are exposed to coding: a vital 21st-century workforce skill. Georgia Day of Code occurs every year during Computer Science Week in conjunction with Code.org’s Hour of Code initiative.

Governor Deal announces three new College & Career Academies

 

Gov. Nathan Deal announced December 1, 2016 that the board of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) approved grants totaling $9 million to help establish new College and Career Academies in Chattahoochee, Tift and Worth counties. Each of the three academies will receive $3 million, which will be matched with local funding to support startup costs, construction and initial staffing.

U.S. Army Cyber Command Celebrates Headquarters Construction

 

On November 27, 2016 local, state and federal officials joined senior Army leaders in ceremonially starting construction on the first phase of a 324,000-square-foot facility for those charged with defending America’s most critical military asset: its data network.

Ron Barnes and Jon Burton To Lead CompTIA National State Government Affairs Committee 

 

CompTIA announced Ron Barnes, head of state legislative affairs at Google, and Jon Burton, managing director of state government affairs at RELX, Inc., have been named as Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, of the CompTIA National State Government Affairs Committee. The Committee reviews legislation and other policies impacting the technology industry from all 50 states, and sets the direction for CompTIA’s advocacy in the states.

Judge Blocks Obama Overtime Rule

 

The Labor Department’s contentious overtime rule was blocked Tuesday by a federal judge in Texas, putting one of President Obama's top regulatory initiatives in jeopardy. The rule would have extended overtime pay to more than 4 million workers starting December 1. It would have required employers to pay overtime to most salaried workers who earn less than $47,476 annually, a much higher threshold than the current annual salary limit of $23,660.
