As you know computer science is foundational for all 21st century students today. Please join us to celebrate Computer Science Week December 8-14th with students all over Georgia and the world through the Hour of Code and Georgia Day of Code! This year, in partnership with Code.org, TAG-Ed and TAG are presenting the Georgia Day of Code on December 10th 2014. Georgia Day of Code is an opportunity for teachers, students and individuals of all ages to learn more about these machines we use to work, play, and communicate every day.

Georgia Lawmakers Seek to Boost the Solar Energy Industry

 

The General Assembly is expected to give Georgia's solar energy industry a boost by resurrecting legislation letting property owner's contract directly with solar companies to finance and install solar panels. Georgia State Representative Mike Dudgeon plans to introduce compromise legislation early in the 2015 session the utilities will be able to support.

State Senator John Albers Pushes Digital Learning

 

Georgia State Senator John Albers wants Georgia schools to go digital by 2020. Senator Albers is still working out the details of his bill, but pledged not to force local school districts to cover all costs of moving to digital materials. Educators across the country are moving toward classrooms based around technology, and the Obama administration last week committed more funding to expand high-speed Internet access and pledged to connect 99 percent of students through their school or library.

 Major Breakthrough on Negotiations to Eliminate Tariffs on Infromation Technology Products

 

On November 10th the United States Trade Representative announced a breakthrough with the ongoing efforts to expand the Information Technology Agreement (ITA). An expanded ITA will support well-paying jobs, boost domestic and global economic growth. This is a World Trade Organization (WTO) agreement that eliminates tariffs on high-tech products among 54 economies, including the U.S. and China.

Recent Developments Will Delay Open Internet Rules

 

During the second week of November President Obama chimed in on the contentious net neutrality debate, asking the FCC to “keep the Internet free and open” and to “reclassify Internet service under Title II of the Telecommunications Act.” Perhaps the most notable part of his statement, however, was that “it has become plain that there is more work to do,” which means that we certainly won’t be getting new Open Internet rules by the end of the year.
