Georgia Statewide Technology Town Hall Meetings

 

The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the state’s leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia’s technology industry is hosting a Technology Town Hall throughout of statewide Chapters. The Technology Town Hall serves as an informational forum about the critical issues and policies that are important to the emerging technology communities in Georgia. Attendees will be able to learn about legislative activities from the 2016 session, as well as preview initiatives for the upcoming 2017 Georgia General Assembly.

Georgia Lottery Transfers One Billion to Education

 

The Georgia Lottery Corporation annual fiscal year 2016 profit transferred a total of $1,097,577,000 to the States Education Account. This is a record breaking year and the first time in single fiscal year to achieve profits over $1 billion.

New Head of Advanced Technology Development Center Announced 

 

The Georgia Institute of Technology has named Jennifer Bonnett general manager of the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), effective immediately. The announcement follows Bonnett’s tenure as ATDC’s acting general manager since October 2015. In taking the permanent appointment, Bonnett leads a team of 22 full- and part-time employees who run the program’s various initiatives, as well as coach entrepreneurs across the state.

During the General Assembly interim there are Study Committee meetings taking place to examine and report any findings, recommendations, or legislative proposals on issues important to the state of Georgia. TAG is participating in several 2016 Study committees impacting the technology industry.

House Introduces Bipartisan High-Skilled Immigration Reform Bill

 

Congressmen Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Scott Peters (D-CA) introduced H.R. 5801, The Protect and Grow American Jobs Act, to the House Judiciary Committee. The bill aims to increase the number of H-1B Employer Exemptions from the cap limit from 60,000 to 100,000 and eliminates the master’s degree requirement for H-1B Employer Exemptions. Obama Administration Announces Actions to Accelerate Electric Vehicle Adoption

 

The Administration is announcing an unprecedented set of actions from the Federal government,  private sector, and states, as well as a new framework for collaboration for vehicle manufacturers, electric utilities, electric vehicle charging companies, and states, all geared towards accelerating the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and putting more electric vehicles on the road.
