Bytes for Bites Food and Fund Drive Announces Steering Committee Members

Helping to lead TAG’s first statewide food and fund drive, a core team of 6 people is working to

galvanize the tech community and ensure a successful competition.

 

Georgia- (May 25, 2016) –The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), and Hub Magazine's Food Technology feature, Bytes, today announced the core Steering Committee Members tasked with making Bytes for Bites (B4B) a great success.  The food and fund drive event benefits the Georgia Food Bank Association and will be held at food bank locations across the state on July 11th and July 22nd.

 

“We are thrilled to have leaders from the technology industry across the state give their energy and creativity to leading the inaugural Bytes for Bites competition,” said Danah Craft, Executive Director of the Georgia Food Bank Association. “When an entire industry comes together to address hunger, it can have a powerful impact on our communities.”

The steering committee leading the Bytes for Bites effort includes representatives from five regions across the state, as well as staff from the Georgia Food Bank Association, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and TAG:


ATHENS

 Bytes for Bites is a statewide food and fund drive competition whereby tech companies raise resources for regional food banks. The company that raises the most food and funds per employee will win the highly prestigious TAG Cup, with opportunities for awards in other categories.

“With the poverty rate at 21.7% in the city of Augusta, I could not pass up the opportunity to do something tangible to meet the needs of individuals that may not have any other resource available,” said Tonia Gibbons, Community Outreach Director, Mayor’s Office of Augusta.

The food and funds raised by each company participating in Bytes for Bites will stay local and benefit the regional food bank that serves their community.  Hosting the drive during the summer allows an opportunity to feed the nearly 1 in 4 children in Georgia households that are food insecure.

“As a native of Atlanta, I grew up volunteering for the ACFB”, says Amelia Baer, Senior Business Development Manager, Unosquare. “Now that I am part of a company that is planting roots in Atlanta, I am especially proud to be a part of this group to help those who need.”
