TAG Savannah Tech Talk: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Mapping and Monitoring for Agronomic Applications

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are the new frontier in agricultural innovation. As the world’s population continues to grow, farmers need accurate and up-to-date information on the health of their crops and the environmental condition of the land for production at an efficient rate. Equipped with sensors, UAVs allow collection of infrared images and determination of subtle crop changes not visible at ground-level. Precision agriculture is now employed as UAVs designed for crop-spraying could increase crop yields as well as reduce input costs of fertilizers and pesticides. With over 1300 acres (800 being agricultural), Fort Valley State University is a major player in this automation technology for field scouting, mapping and efficient agricultural production.
