ROSWELL - Gadgets galore will be on display at the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce’s (GNFCC) annual Gadget Showcase coming to Andretti Indoor Karting and Games in Roswell July 30.
The chamber combines its monthly Business After Hours with the gadgetfest, giving technology innovators, manufacturers and distributors the chance to exhibit their products in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. Potential customers, technophiles, business owners, “geeks” and investors will find electronic devices such as SIP-enabled phones like the Gizmo, PDAs, laptops and other mobile computing devices. Many of the exhibitors will have business-oriented products and technology on display.
“Gwinnett and we are working together with TAG [Technology Association of Georgia] on trying to provide another opportunity for our tech companies in the north metro area,” said Tedra Cheatham, GNFCC vice president.
TAG North Metro meets at Pampas Steakhouse on State Bridge Road in Johns Creek. Cheatham said 125 people attended the first meeting in June. The second meeting was held July 16, with the third meeting scheduled Aug. 20. There Pete Sinisgalli, president and CEO of Manhattan Associates, will speak.

Skillproof produces a report, each month, providing TAG stakeholders information in respect to the technology job market, after several months of decline I am happy to see that last month produced a slight uptick. The author suggests that there is a “bottoming out”. Signs are pointing that way, although I recently read a story, out of Forbes, that suggests that the other shoe might drop next year. It hasn’t happened often, as the normal trend is growth, after a downturn, but this recession feels different. Still seems like much instability to me, so we need to keep our guard up.
Check out the Skillproof report http://www.tagonline.org/it-job-trends.php.

The following is an excerpt of a press release issued by the Department of Labor.
Secretary of Labor, Hilda L. Solis, announced five grant competitions, totaling $500 million, to fund projects that prepare workers for green jobs in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries.
“Emerging green jobs are creating opportunities for workers to enter careers that offer good wages and pathways to long term job growth and prosperity,” said Secretary Solis. “Workers receiving training through projects funded by these competitions will be at the forefront as our nation transforms the way we generate electricity, manufacture products and do business across a wide range of industries.”
Four of the competitions announced are designed to serve workers in need of training through various national, state and community outlets. The fifth competition will fund state workforce agencies that will collect, analyze and disseminate labor market information and develop exchange infrastructure to direct individuals to careers in green industries. Detailed information about these solicitations can be found on http://www.grants.gov.
