TAG UNVEILS 2008 TOP 10 INNOVATIVE GEORGIA TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES

ATLANTA (Feb. 27, 2008) - With nearly 150 companies applying for consideration, the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) announced the 2008 Top 10 Most Innovative Technology Companies in Georgia at its Georgia Technology Summit: Innovation In Transformation yesterday at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

The companies are: Appcelerator, Damballa, Horizon Software, Omnilink, PlayMotion, Scantech Holdings, SparkIP, Suniva, TerraGo Technologies, and The Weather Channel Interactive (TWCi).

"This was another solid year for the Top 40, with the next generation of Georgia innovators poised to further expand the State's reputation for being a technology hotbed," said Tino Mantella, president of TAG. "It was a difficult process to narrow the selection to Georgia's Top 10, but the finalists represent an exciting mix of companies that I'm sure we'll hear more from in the years to come."

The 10 companies made presentations during the Summit which also featured keynote addresses by Don Tapscott, best-selling author of "Wikinomics" and Michael Gelb, best-selling author of "Innovate Like Edison."

TAG annually picks 40 of the most innovative technology companies in the state, and then pares that down to a list of "Sweet 16" semifinalists and finally the Top 10.  The TAG Top 40 are selected based on a number of criteria, including: degree of innovation, focusing on whether the technology is disruptive or cutting-edge; scope and financial impact of innovation; likelihood of success; and promotion of Georgia's innovative efforts nationally and internationally.

"The Top 40 has become more and more competitive every year," said Dennis Zakas, a partner with McKenna Long & Aldridge and chairperson of the Top 40 Selection Committee.  "It was very tough to come up with the final 10 because all the companies in the Sweet Sixteen had incredible technologies.  The range and depth of technologies showcased at the Summit demonstrate that Georgia is right at the top of the pack in developing successful technology companies."

In addition to their Top 10 recognition, Dennis Zakas presented several companies with "People's Choice" recognition as voted on by the event attendees. Playmotion was picked for "Coolest Technology" and "Best Exhibit". Scantech Holdings and Suniva were selected for "Most Likely to Create Jobs" and "Most Likely to Succeed" respectively. Damballa, Inc. was judged as having "Breakthrough Technology" and "Best Summit Presentation" went to TerraGo Technologies.

In addition to Zakas, the 2008 Top 40 Competition committee members include: Ron Dolinsky, Kathy Harris, Stephen Fleming, Don House, Sig Mosley, Michael Reene, Knox Massey, Mark Barry, Jeff Muir, Buddy Ray and Mark Samuels.
