TAG ANNOUNCES "SWEET 16" SEMIFINALISTS
FOR TOP 10 INNOVATIVE GEORGIA TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES
Duluth, GA (Feb. 20, 2007) - A grid computing company, a mobile banking firm and a company that provides noise cancellation equipment are among the "Sweet 16" semifinalists for The Technology Association of Georgia's (TAG) annual Top 10 Innovative Technology Companies In Georgia to be announced Feb. 28, 2007, during the Georgia Technology Summit: Innovation 2.0 Managing Innovation For Growth at the Cobb Galleria Centre.
The list of companies, which includes a tie for one spot, are: Asankya, Clearwave Corporation, Commerce Science Corporation, Compliance 360 , Firethorn, IDology Inc., Izenda LLC, Nexidia, Quellan Inc., Recordant, Scentric Inc., Super Computer International Inc., The Intellection Group, VoiceQuilt, Vystar and Wireless Vision.
The companies are part of TAG's annual search for the Top 40 most innovative companies in the state. Companies selected to be in the Top 40 will participate in a showcase at the Summit and the Top 10 companies will make presentations during the event, which is expected to attract some 800 of the state's technology leaders.
"This has been our most successful Top 40 competition ever with nearly 100 companies applying," said Tino Mantella, president of TAG. "Our congratulations to all of the Top 40 and good luck to the ‘Sweet 16' as they compete for the Top 10."
The Top 40 Innovators are chosen based on a number of criteria, including: degree of innovation; scope and financial impact of innovation; likelihood of success; and promotion of Georgia's innovative efforts nationally and internationally.
"This has been an extremely competitive group with such outstanding technologies to choose from," said Dennis Zakas, a partner with Hunton & Williams and chairperson of the Top 40 Selection Committee. "The committee has been working overtime to select the Top 10 from some incredible candidates."
In addition to Zakas, the 2007 committee members include: Co-chair Ron Dolinsky (MARKETQUEST), Kathy Harris (Noro-Moseley Partners), Sig Mosley (Imlay Investments), Stephen Fleming (Georgia Tech), Buddy Ray (Innovation Publishing), Don House (investor and member of Georgia Technology Hall of Fame), Jeff Muir (Chatham Capital), Knox Massey (Atlanta Technology Angels) and Chris Mangum (Venture X).
This year's "Sweet 16" will be introduced today during the February meeting of The Gwinnett Technology Forum held at the George Busbee Center, Gwinnett Technical College.
"We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to host the announcement of the ‘Sweet 16' semifinalists at our February meeting," said Steven Chambers, chairman of the Gwinnett Technology Forum and director of operations, Andrew Corporation. "We applaud the entire 2007 Top 40 and, of course, we are especially proud of the seven companies from Gwinnett on the list."
Wired's Chris Anderson To Keynote Technology Summit
Chris Anderson, editor-in-chief of Wired magazine and best-selling author of ‘The Long Tail,' will be the keynote speaker at the Technology Summit. Anderson's book has had a significant impact on the business community as a whole, particularly around the areas of innovation and business economics.
TAG will give its annual Lifetime Achievement Award to Jim Blanchard, retired CEO of Synovus Financial Corp. The Summit attendees will also hear from Rich DeMillo, dean of the College of Computing and Georgia Tech and former chief technology officer for Hewlett-Packard.
