Dennis Zakas is a technology lawyer and entrepreneur. Zakas practiced with Winthrop Stimson in New York City and was a partner in the Atlanta offices of Kilpatrick Stockton, Hunton & Williams and McKenna Long & Aldridge. In 2009 he left “big firm” practice to found Zakas & Leonard, LLP, a boutique corporate law firm. The firm’s tag line, Transformational Law, reflects its commitment to transforming the way law is practiced through the innovative use of technology and hands-on senior partner involvement. He has represented numerous technology, telecommunications and growth companies in a variety of transactions, including venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, public and private securities offerings, corporate governance, technology licenses, and other complex commercial transactions. Zakas has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for many years, including for 2011, and was named a Mergers & Acquisitions Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
In addition to practicing law, Dennis is the founder and is Chairman and CEO of two technology ventures. The first, Dynamic Bundles, LLC seeks to be the industry standard for commerce involving the sourcing, marketing and sales of multiple goods and services. Its proprietary bundles engine enables merchants to create and competitively price bundles of goods. Customers can customize bundles or create their own; in each case the bundled price reflects the customer’s choices. Dynamic Bundles has spun off Dynamic Designware, LLC, an affiliate that provides an e-commerce platform and unique tools specifically for home design projects. Users of this technology will include interior designers, home remodelers, contractors, and dealers of furniture, furnishings and fixtures.
The second venture, Group Office Buys (www.groupofficebuys.com), is an online supplier of office products. Its pricing, selection, service and payment terms are demonstrably better than those of other major competitors. For example, it offers prices that are always lower than Staples’ regular online prices, stocks more than 40,000 items (twice as many as others stock), provides next-business day delivery, and offers 30, 60 and 90 day payment terms. Group Office Buys contributes 1% of each customer’s purchases to that customer’s designated not-for-profit in its unique “support your cause” program.
Zakas has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) since 1999. He was named a 2005 TAG Volunteer of the Year for his role as the founder and initial chair of the Georgia Technology Summit. At the 2010 Georgia Technology Summit, he was recognized for his past contributions to TAG. He also founded TAG’s Top 40/10 Innovative Companies Competition and continues to chair the Top 40/10 Committee. Zakas is Georgia Co-chair of the Society of International Business Fellows (SIBF), and has served as SIBF’s Counsel. He is also a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG).
