TAG's monthly IT Job Trends Report about the Georgia IT job market and skills in demand.
TAG has experienced significant growth over the past few years. We now have 15,000 members with vastly ranging interests - from technical people at consumer product companies to human resources executives at some of the largest technology companies in the world - and 30 Societies making up almost 200 annual events. With this growth comes exciting challenges, and one such challenge is how to communicate everything that is going on at TAG with the growing TAG community, without overwhelming them with emails.
Starting on February 6th, TAG will start sending out a daily email. Each day of the week will contain specific information:
MONDAY: Community News - News from the Georgia technology community
TUESDAY: Major Events - TAG's upcoming major events
WEDNESDAY: TAG Announcements - Upcoming opportunities and deadlines
THURSDAY: Society Events - Upcoming TAG society events for the next two weeks
FRIDAY: Top picks - Staff favorites from the week's prior emails, plus a message from the TAG President
We believe this new system will better serve our growing TAG community. Please see below for screenshots and Frequently Asked Questions about the transition to the new system, and if you have any additional questions please contact TAG COO Melanie Brandt at Melanie@TAGonline.org. Thank you for your ongoing involvement with TAG and again, please look for these changes starting on Monday, February 6th.
FAQs
How is this different than TAG's current system?
Currently, if you are in the TAG database you receive three standard emails a week from us - the TAGthink Digest on Mondays, the TAG eWeekly on Tuesday, and the TAG eBlast on Thursday. Additionally, you receive special "all database" emails periodically (typically only on days the Digest, eWeekly, or eBlast isn't sent) specific to upcoming events, training programs, webinars, etc. And, if you have opted-in to any of TAG's 30 societies, you also receive three emails a month from each of them on the months that they hold events - a month before the event, another one a week before the event, and the day before the event. To do the math: for any month, if you have opted in to half of our societies and half of them are having events that month, you will receive a minimum of 34 and as many as 43 emails from TAG. That's a lot of emails.
So how many emails a month will TAG send me now?
20. That's it. No more. No less.
No less?
Well, actually you can get less if you want. You can opt out of any of the daily emails - for example, if you only care about the community news and society events, you can elect to only get the MONDAY and THURSDAY emails.
But then how will I learn about my favorite TAG Society's events?
There are a variety of "push" and "pull" ways to get information about your favorite TAG Societies. Here is what we suggest:
Social Media:
Join your societies' group pages on LinkedIN
Follow your favorite societies on Twitter
Websites:
Bookmark/periodically check your societies' page on TAGonline
Bookmark/periodically check your societies' group page on TAGthink
Bookmark/periodically check the TAG events calendar
Email:
Stay subscribed to (at least) the THURSDAY society events email
Also:
Most TAG societies have a regular event day/time (eg 5:30pm on the third Thursday of every month.) You may want to go ahead and create a recurring event in your calendar, and then fill in the details via the methods listed above.
What if my favorite society isn't very active with social media?
Starting in early 2011, TAG implemented the Society Social Media Council and asked all TAG societies to appoint a coordinator who would be dedicated to advancing their social media presence for the society. We have seen a steady incline of social media activity and, at a minimum, society event information will be pushed out through each society's social media channels. If you are having specific issues related to social media and your favorite society, please contact Katie Sewell at Katie@TAGonline.org or (404)920-2026.
I would like to help my favorite TAG Society with their social media efforts. Who can I contact?
Please contact Katie Sewell at Katie@TAGonline.org or (404)920-2026.
Is there someone with the society I can contact directly?
Yes, each of the staff liaisons and the TAG society chairs' contact information can be found on the society page of the TAG website. You can also contact TAG's COO, Melanie Brandt, at Melanie@TAGonline.org or (404)920-2037.
Is there one Facebook page, Twitter account, or LinkedIN Group that will have information on all of the TAG Societies and activity?
Yes,TAG's Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Technology-Association-of-Georgia/133288386408, our Twitter account is @TAGthink and, if you are a TAG member, you should join the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) group on LinkedIN. These accounts will be broadcasting TAG society event information as well.
Wait, why do I have to be a TAG member to join the TAG LinkedIN Group?
Because TAG is a membership organization.
Does each society have a Hashtag I can also search?
Some do, and in general the TAG hashtag is #TAGthink.
Do I have to choose the emails I want?
No, you will be automatically opted in for all of the daily emails.
When/how can I opt out?
Each and every email we send will have an "unsubscribe" and/or "manage my subscriptions" link at the bottom, and you will be able to make changes at any time.
If I opt out, can I opt back in at a later date?
If you have indicated that you do not want to get emails from TAG, you will need to email Sera@TAGonline.org and let her know that you have opted out of TAG emails but would like to opt back in. There will be several additional steps involved in order to resume getting emails from us, due to spam and privacy laws.
What if I want to share the information in TAG emails with my colleagues?
You can share specific components of the daily emails, forward the emails, or select the "forward to a friend" option, or you can click "view as a webpage" and send (or post via your social media options) the link.
Are you doing a test period?
Yes. For the weeks of January 23rd and 30th, we will be sending our regular emails to the database as well as the new emails to a select test group. If you would like to be a part of the test group, please contact TAG COO Melanie Brandt via Melanie@TAGonline.org or (404)920-2037.
