Mark Metz is VP and GM of Avnet, one of the largest distributors of electronic components, including connectors and semiconductors, technology solutions, computer products and embedded technology. Avnet connects the world's leading technology manufacturers with a broad base of more than 100,000 customers by providing cost-effective value-added services and solutions.
Prior to Avnet, Mark’s pursuit of excellence was honed at Furman University, where he received a degree in Business and Computer Science, and was an Academic All -American and Athlete of the Year in 1985. He went on to prove himself by overseeing the launch of a wholesale division for his then employer, which in just 10 years grew to produce $60 million in revenue and $6 million in profit. Metz and partners then founded Corus 360 in 1998 and Canvas Systems in 2000. Canvas Systems, an IT Lifecycle management company, appeared on the VAR 500 five years in a row and produced over $120 million in revenue.
In addition to his leadership role within Avnet, Mark serves as a board member of the Technology Association of Georgia, the Marketing Advisory Board of the University of Georgia and is a member of the Furman Advisory Board. Mark was named Ernst & Young’s Southeast Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001 and he was also named Furman University’s Distinguished Alumni in 2007.
